A ritual of sound ends the Stay At the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Up to this point the greatest and most resonant wish of the history of IntensivZeit was of one of our founding members and consultants of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital Dresden, Matthias Richter – a gigantic ‚wind gong‘ that is one meter in diameter wide.

Since the installation of this Gong in February 2022 Children and adolescents can beat on it and play different sounds on it when they get discharged from the intensive care unit. This way they can say goodbye and mark a new stage in their lives. They can either play on it theirselves or one of their parents plays the gong instead in all heights, depths and volumes. The sound waves carry through all the patients rooms and transport motivation other patients that will soon be able to hit on the gong as well. The handover of the gong was celebrated with members of IntensivZeit e.V., staff of the pediatric intensive care unit as well as a former patient. We were very happy that Evangelos (picture) returned to the intensive care unit with his parents to play the Gong and be the first to send these positive vibes across the ward. He himself was a patient at the pediatric intensive care unit for many weeks suffering from Guillain-Barré-Syndrome. Only through many donations of private donors we were able to purchase the wind gong. The only thing missing after that was a transportable suspension which was a custom work and also a generous gift of „BBM Akustik Industrie GmbH“ from Coswig. We are very grateful!
